Down With the Sickness

BEWARE YE WHO ENTER

ENTER AT YOUR OWN RISK

QUARANTINE

The yellow flag has been lowered and we are all better...cross your fingers. Cade, the official cootie carrier, may still have something lingering, but doesn't seem to be bothered by it. (And I won't go into details of how I know its lingering.)
Cade ->
Grandma Sullivan ->
Mommy AND Daddy ->
Uncle Roger AND Nanny Ruth ->
Grandpa Sullivan...
We'll hope no one else has any problems.

With Michael, Hillary & London moving to town, a lot had to be done. Unfortunately they couldn't get a U-Haul, but fortunately we have a truck. So we traded vehicles and kept London. We had a full day of running around to the Dogwood Festival and visiting some other nonsick family members. Unfortunately London had a melt down while visiting the Sullivans , but she was hungry and I thought she was crying for another reason. Oh well, all is well now. Today while we had her, she slept the entire time. Moving must be tiring for her.
Cade is doing well. Learning to walk is nothing like the movies. Sure he walks, two to five steps at a time, but why walk when you can crawl? We'll just be patient. He's happy and that's all we could ask for.

We Regressed...Sort of

Sunday night....shew. Cade was being very restless as he slept. It didn't take long to find out why. The poor thing woke up a little after 11:00 throwing up. Ew. This was no baby puke. Nope, the real thing. It wasn't just a tad that sometimes appears after a meal. This was full on vomit. We cleaned up and laid back down, just to do it all over again. After four towels, two blankets, a pair of pjs, an extra sleep shirt and numerous mommy changes we headed for the couch. I left him in his diaper and his blanket was now a towel. I felt so sorry for him. He was so tired, he could barely finish gagging and dry heaving before he was trying to snuggle back to sleep. That continued around every 20 minutes until about 3:30.
After Daddy left for work we napped a little longer on the couch. Fear of repeat I only gave him bread for breakfast and water...in a bottle. I felt bad for him. After another nap for Cade, Grandma stopped by with some Pedialyte. I put that in a bottle. I knew he would have nothing to do with it in a sippy cup. He just knows its "medicine." Of course with Grandma here he was busy showing off and being silly (like he hadn't even been sick). After I watered down the Pedialyte and he woke up from another nap, he managed to drink it along with more bread.
I finally got him to play in the floor some, but could just tell he still wasn't feeling well. He slept most of the day yesterday and is still attached to my hip today. He's going to Grandma's today so I can do some errands. I'm sure she won't have any problems snuggling with him all day.

Got Milk?

Daddy returned to work this week and Cade & I barely knew what to do. We got too use to him being home. It was nice, except that surgery part.
I don't consider myself a cheap person, nor am I thrifty. (wish I was) We were down to the bottom of a can of formula and honestly I didn't want to buy another. I guess knowing that I can't use that for ANYTHING else...nothing, AT ALL, I just could not bring myself to purchase another can. I knew our next trip to the pediatrician he would say switch, to whole milk, and I'm not one for prolonging the inevitable. I rip the bandage off in one quick swipe, I eat my veggies first to get that over, anything first. Get it Done. Get it Over. I have been anxious about the bottle switch since Cade was six months old. As soon as he started on foods, I started him with a sippy cup. His bottle usage had dwindled down to one or two a day, but sometimes he did need a third somewhere in the mix.
Why was I so worried?
Cade, Mr. Easygoing, hasn't even noticed he hasn't had a bottle in two days...he hasn't even cared that it has been whole milk and not formula. I almost broke down this morning, almost gave him a bottle, but realized, it would have been only because of my laziness. Now that I have a wee one depending on me, I always give everything a second thought..."Am I being lazy? How will this benefit Cade? Will it hinder him or make help his developments?"
Yesterday as I was fixing supper, I put away one of the bottle dryers we had, along with the bottles that were on it. Today as I fixed pepperoni rolls, I put away the other bottle dryer along with the bottles that were on that one. That's it. They're gone. In a cabinet. No more bottles.
I threw a load of dishes in the washer and was reminded the ease of dishes...sans bottles.

We took a vote...
Decided we liked it...
So we think we'll keep it.

GREAT Week

Daddy has been home all week and we have tried to enjoy every minute of it. By Tuesday Daddy was feeling pretty good and we had planned to make a day trip. He asked Cade if he wanted to visit Aunt Ann and he giggled. We took that as a yes.
Wednesday morning we headed out as soon as Cade was ready for his nap. He slept most of the way and only woke when he was getting hungry.

We arrived just in time to talk to Great Grandma & Grandpa Sullivan.
We were so excited.

I wish I could explain the giggles we heard next. Aunt Ann & Uncle Jim took us to the park. And Cade LOVED the swings. He was howling...he was giggling...it was the best thing ever! I definitely got photos of this baby's teeth this time.

We enjoyed the rest of our stay just visiting with Aunt & Uncle Jim. It was nice to get away for a day. Joe was a little upset having to take more time off work than he wanted...So it was nice to take some of his "sick" time and use it as "vacation" time.
Cade and I have certainly loved Daddy's time at home with us. Whatever will we do next week when he goes back to work? (probably laundry and house cleaning)

Quick Pic (#2)

The new view, front facing. He thought it was GREAT! Especially since Daddy kept playing with him, even hooked up Mickey Mouse to watch and listen through the whole truck.

Happy Easter!

I hope everyone enjoyed their day today, we had a wonderful Easter. The Easter Bunny left Cade a chocolate bunny, a stuffed frog, a golf set and lots of bubbles!
<------------------Cade has refused to nap all day, but how can you not love a holiday. I won't lie though, I am very worn out. We of course went to church then onto Grandpa & Grandma's for lunch. Cade ate macaroni and cheese and mashed potatoes from the table- and loved every minute of it. We also made our rounds to Nanny & Pa's and Nanny Mary's & Uncle Mike's. The only thing missing was Unc & Aunt Kristi, but that's ok, we can share with her family.

Egg Hunt

Lora Dawn was gracious enough to plan an Easter party for the church. With Joe on the mend it was quite a decision whether to go. Daddy was finally feeling better and up to an outing. Such a special day, we are beginning the lasts of the firsts. His first Easter egg hunt, soon to be first Easter, and soon after that his first birthday.
We walked into the church and it felt like there were a million kids there. Lora Dawn said she counted 53 people in all. Fifty-three! That's more people than attend Sunday morning service sometimes. What a blessing! First on the agenda was coloring eggs. I honestly had hoped to miss that part of the party. I know years of playing with Beth's kids, she "owes" me, but my goodness... What if his hands and mouth are still blue tomorrow?!?!?

They also got to paint, but I took Cade away for that part. He was getting restless and needed some space. Some of the adults were out hiding the eggs, so we made our way for the Kodak moment. Getting in the grass is a new thing, so hunting eggs proved somewhat difficult. It took a while, but he finally sat down. Even after throwing the eggs like a ball, he still didn't go after them. I didn't expect much, but it was a nice day and it was good to be out in it.

This is Cade crying.
He has a mouth full of food.
He's mad because I won't give him another bite.
Simply put: He likes food.
